The Boston Whitecaps, previously only beaten once in their existence, came into New York missing some of their key players. The Rumble answered the call and beat the Whitecaps for the first time, handing them their second loss in three games.

After a 20-minute lightning delay, and playing much of the game in the rain, the Rumble pulled out the 18-17 victory.
