The Philadelphia Spinners won their first game of the year in a double-overtime thriller. The wind started gusting late in the game, making this a low scoring affair, with the Spinners pulling out a 13-12 victory.
The two top-ranked teams in the Eastern conference met for the first time, with the DC Current pulling out the win over the previously-undefeated Boston Whitecaps. Last year, Boston went 11-0 in taking the MLU Championship.
Alan Kolick, one of the Current’s stars, knocked down a Spinners pass and converted the score to go up two points with a minute remaining. DC added a last-second goal to win by 3, 21-18.
The New York Rumble visited the Rutgers Machine in a pre-season exhibition game prior to the start of the MLU season. While the Rumble dominated, Rutgers showed flashes and provided some top-notch play for the pros.
