I headed over to West Chester University Ultimate’s home tournament – Dub City Hucktoberfest – to take some shots of the gents and ladies in action Saturday.
MLU Championship DC Current vs. Vancouver Nighthawks
The Nighthawks led an improbable comeback in the third quarter, turning the blowout into an exciting game. The 9-point halftime score proved too much, although the Current had to work to stave off the West Coast champs.
MLU Washington DC Current vs. Philadelphia Spinners
The Philadelphia Spinners hosted the conference champion DC Current for what was essentially a play-in game to the playoffs. With the Boston Whitecaps winning earlier in the day, the Spinners needed a victory to force a rematch the following week at DC.
MLU Boston Whitecaps vs. Philadelphia Spinners
The game was back-and-forth, with the Spinners coming back during a 4-point run in the second quarter and following it up with another in the third. The lead proved too much for Boston to overtake, with the final score Philadelphia 21 – Boston 18.
MLU New York Rumble vs. Philadelphia Spinners
The Rumble hosted the Spinners for a shootout on a lovely Sunday afternoon. The teams were never more than two points apart, in the end the Spinners pulled out a 23-22 victory.
MLU Philadelphia Spinners vs. DC Current
The Spinners kept this game close until midway through the third quarter, where DC pulled away with some unforced and forced Philly turnovers. There was plenty of action, layouts on offense and defense, and some fun mixed in there too.
Philadelphia Open Memorial Day Weekend
The fledgling open (men’s) Ultimate team held a mini-tournament this Memorial Day weekend in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park. There was plenty of action, and true to the intent I wrote about in Skyd Magazine (“Winning Philadelphia’s Ultimate Future”), the mood was light.

MLU Spinners vs. Whitecaps
After going down two breaks in the first quarter, the Philadelphia Spinners put together four consistent quarters to beat a depleted Boston Whitecaps 26-25.
MLU DC Current vs. Philadelphia Spinners
After tight defense and the MLU’s first Callahan score (intercepting an opponent’s pass in their end zone) by #21 Michael Panna, the Spinners were down 1 point with less than a minute to go. The Current, bending but not breaking, tacked on a meaningless score as time expired to win the game 25-23.
